Chi siamo noi?
How nice would it be to have our own campsite? That question came up every holiday. In 2020, we took the plunge and decided to change course. We wanted to leave our hectic lives in the Netherlands behind and start a new adventure. Marly worked in financial administration and Sander in the agricultural sector.
We had been drawn to Italy for a long time. The country with its rich culture, delicious food and fine climate. And all that within driving distance of the Netherlands. That is why the choice was quickly made. We ended up in the Marches in central Italy. After visiting several places, we fell in love with Agriturismo Il Castellaro, an old restored farmhouse from 1800.
The accommodation has five guest rooms and a small campsite that is yet to be built. “This is it. This is where we see ourselves living,” we said to each other. “And here we are going to make our guests feel at home.”
We hope to meet you soon at Agriturismo Il Castellaro.
Sander and Marly Scherff.
About Agriturismo Il Castellaro
Il Castellaro is an authentic, restored Italian farmhouse dating back to 1800. Situated between the rolling hills of the Apennines with beautiful views of Monte Cucco.
In the farmhouse are the private quarters, with on the ground floor the restaurant and the company kitchen. In the annexes five beautiful rooms have been created, all with private bathroom. In addition, there is a flat with private terrace where you can enjoy the beautifully landscaped garden with a variety of flowers and plants.
Next to the farmhouse is the garden with a playground for children and a beautiful swimming pool where you can enjoy the sun in all peace on lovely beach beds with parasol. Five cats and a very sweet dog ‘Cookie’ walk around on the premises. The animals are very friendly and the children can enjoy themselves with them. Pets are welcome after consultation.
Around the farm there are five hectares of farmland with a horse stable and a large meadow where a horse and a donkey stay. Furthermore, there is a large vegetable garden where we grow products that we use in our meals. The vegetable garden is surrounded by grapevines, fig-, nut- and cherry trees. In front of the house there is a meadow with a night shelter where the goats and the sheep roam.
On the land behind the house, in 2023, a small campsite with places for campers and tents will be built.
Because we want to be as sustainable as possible, there is no gas supply. There are 26 solar panels on the outbuildings that provide us with electricity. To heat the water, there is a solar boiler and a wood-burning stove.
Four times a week we cook a delicious Italian meal for our guests. This fixed menu consists of a starter, a main course and ‘i dolci’, a dessert.
Our guests can sign up for this the evening before. The meal, accompanied by a delicious Italian wine, is served on our cosy terrace during the breathtaking sunset.
We do our utmost to provide our guests with an unforgettable stay in the beautiful surroundings of Il Castellaro.
Are you coming too?
